Good story! Josiah's favorite part is the "Israelites crossing and the bad guys drowning" in the Red Sea. 8) - Nathan & Josiah

I read this story of the Bitter Waters of Marah two days ago, and I saw your telling it on the site. I was really struck by the theme of 'disappointment with God' that is in that story.

It seems that we seldom give the Israelites credit for walking those three days without complaining. They must have been so thirsty and their children complaining to them relentlessly. I would have grumbled much earlier than they did, I think. When they thought God's plan had finally been revealed, it turned out bitter.

How many of us have waited so long, only to settle or turn away in our disappointment, when God's "almost provision" didn't deliver. This story encourages me that God's plan may yet be right around the corner (in the Bible version, they continue on to a beautiful oasis with twelve springs and 70 palm trees!)
